One of the top questions that people always ask me about hang gliding is “how do you land?” There is also a lot of confusion about how I get my legs out of the ‘sleeping bag’ that I’m in – (which isn’t actually a sleeping bag, it’s a harness). So here is a video showing one of my landings!
Landing is inevitable, seeing as what goes up must come down. The harness simply unzips, you pop your legs out and start running as soon as the ground gets close enough. Speed is very important as it affects your steering and control as you come into land, this means that you need to pull in and have plenty of speed on your approach to landing. As you make contact with the ground, flaring brings you to a stop. And voilà, you are back on the ground!
