Textron Aviation Inc today announced its Cessna TTx will be headlining their diverse product lineup at this year’s Reno Air Races.

The TTx is an all-composite design, powered by a TCM TSIO-550-C six-cylinder, fuel-injected, twin-turbocharged engine with dual intercoolers rated at 310hp.

Clearly aimed to compete with the Cirrus SR-22, the TTx offers certified Flight In Known Icing capability which not only brings the obvious safety benefits but also gives the aircraft the flexibility to be properly employed as a reliable means of business travel.

The new aircraft will be equipped with Garmin’s ‘Intrinsic’ touch-screen glass cockpit and feature Electronic Stability and Protection, a system independent of the autopilot which Cessna say will keep pilots within the aircraft’s limits through positive control inputs. Whether this will convince pilots used to the comfort blanket provided by the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System remains to be seen.

The main selling point of the TTx remains speed, as it has been since the aircraft was designed by now defunct Columbia Aircraft Company so Reno seems the natural opportunity to show the aircraft. With the headline figure of 235 ktas cruise, the TTx claims to be the fastest aircraft in its class. Whether it will overtake its main competitor in sales remains to be seen.
